About Us
Jeff Hatfield began building custom homes at the early age of 23. His career stemmed from the need to provide for Jeff and Jerri’s newborn child. After seeing the building process as a laborer on a concrete crew, Jeff believed he could build a spec home and proceeded to do so. With support from his wife, brothers, and parents, Jeff founded the custom home building company Hatfield Brothers in 1984.
After the success of his first home, Jeff continued the home building process, making countless phone calls in the evening, meeting customers on holidays, and working seven days a week. Soon, their small company began to grow and Jeff’s brothers went off to pursue their own dreams, but Hatfield Brothers still remained with Jeff and Jerri Hatfield at the core.
For fifteen years, Hatfield Brothers built custom homes. At times, Jeff and Jerri were building fifteen custom homes a year scattered all across Evansville. At the same time, Jeff was involved heavily in the Southern Indiana Builders Association, of which he became president in 1993. Jerri was active in the industry as well, serving as Southern Indiana Builders Auxiliary treasurer from 1988 to 1990 and president from 1990 to 1993.
Then in 1999, Jeff and Jerri built Willows at 41, a commercial project which opened the door to something new. That year, Hatfield Brothers evolved from a custom home building business to Core Contractors Inc. which does both commercial “CO and “RE” residential projects. To this day, CORE mainly focuses its time and energy on commercial remodeling.
An excerpt from the Evansville Business Magazine, written by Laura Acchiardo, “The transition just kind of happened,” says Jeff Hatfield, president of CORE. “We didn’t sit down and decide that at any point. The majority of our calls that year came from commercial contracting projects, so, once we stopped building custom homes, we stopped getting those types of calls. Over the last several years, we have gained some loyal customers doing commercial work. Occasionally, we still get a call for a custom home, but we mostly receive calls for commercial remodeling, new commercial construction, multi-family, and condominiums.”
To this day, CORE has worked with over one hundred unique businesses to handle many of their commercial needs. After seeing the quality and standards to which CORE upholds, many of those businesses are repeat customers.

Jeffrey M. Hatfield, Sr.
President
As a licensed commercial and residential contractor, Jeff is the owner and president of Core Contractors Inc. His duties and responsibilities include direct management of all employees, developing estimates, specifications, and schedules. He is responsible for all customer contacts and relations as well. He has successfully owned and operated a small business for over thirty years. Outside of Core Contractors Inc, Jeff loves spending time with his family and actively participating in his community. He is also an active member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. A few of his past affiliations include serving as president of the Evansville Water and Sewer Utility Board, president of the Southern Indiana Builders Association, and vice-president of the Indiana Builders Association. He was born and raised in Evansville, where he graduated from Reitz Memorial Catholic High School and received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Evansville.
Jerri L. Hatfield
Secretary/Treasurer
Jerri is the company CFO and office manager. She handles all financial and secretarial duties for the company. She received a degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern Indiana. She is also a licensed Real Estate Sales Person on a referral basis. Jerri manages North Point Apartments in addition to her position at CORE. When she is out of the office, she enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, playing in the dirt (a.k.a. gardening) and antiquing. She is a founding member of “Make Time to Read” book club and has enjoyed reading with the club since 1999.
Jodie Horstketter
Administration/Management
Jodie has been employed with our company since 2012. She assists in administrative duties, customer service and manages investment property. She is a graduate of Indiana State University of Evansville. In addition to working with CORE, she is a small business owner. When she’s not at work, she enjoys landscaping and outdoor art projects, competing in ESPN Fantasy Games against her husband, spending time with several assorted pets they lovingly refer to as “The Zoo” and frolicking with four fun grandbabies.
Shawn Nernberger
Superintendent
Shawn has been with our company since 1999 and has experience extending to every aspect of the building process. His leadership abilities can guide any size staff to suit your project’s needs. Shawn started working for CORE when he was sixteen, simply cleaning job sites over the summer when he wasn’t in school. Since then, he has become one of CORE’s most experienced and trusted members. He’s an “outside-the-box” thinker and a problem solver, which is an invaluable asset to managing any project. In his free time, he loves being with his daughter, Reese.
